If validity of passport expired - Duplicate passport can be applied under tatkal as well as normal category , depending on the need or urgency. It takes approx. 3 days time in getting passport under tatkal category. In normal category , it will take 30 days time.

What happens if one has to cancel or reschedule an Appointment ?

Each applicant can reschedule/ cancel the appointment twice . Systems do not allow any applicant to exercise the booking of appointment more than thrice.

Steps Involved after Online Application

Visiting the Passport Seva Kendra or Regional Passport Office whenever the appointment has been booked with the original documents. Each person is given a slot in which he/she has to report on time.

Once you have visited the Passport Seva Kendra, the passport Authorities will ensure that all your particulars are filled and will then verify and crosscheck your documents. If all the required documents are in order, your PSK visit would be lucrative.

Once done, the Passport Office sends your particulars to the nearest Police Headquarters of your area to investigate and check your background to verify that you aren't holding any criminal records in the past. If so, you will be re-verified, and if everything is clear then the police submit a clear report.

Once police verification is done, the Passport Authorities re-verify whether the police has submitted a correct report or not. Once that is done, everything is clear and you are good to go.

Your Passport Printing is initiated and within 7 working days, your passport arrives through mail at your doorstep.

Process Time : It takes minimum 15 days and maximum 30 days.

Who are eligible for ECNR passport?

Following are the people eligible to apply for passport under ECNR category :

All holders of Diplomatic/official Passports
All GAZETTED Government servants, their spouses and dependent children.
All persons having educational qualifications of matriculation and above
All persons above the age of 50 years
Income-Tax payers (including Agricultural Income-Tax payees) in their individual capacity, their spouses and dependent children below the age 18 years
Persons possessing two years diploma from any institute recognized by the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) or State Council of Vocational Training (SCVT), or persons holding three years diploma/equivalent degree from institutions, such as Polytechnics recognized by the Central/State Governments of India
Nurses possessing qualifications recognized under the Indian Nursing Council Act. 1947
All professional Degree holders , their spouses and dependent children. Examples of professional degree holders are Doctors holding MBBS degree or equivalent degree in AYURVED or HOMEOPATHY, accredited Journalists, Engineers, Chartered Accountants, Cost Accountants, Lecturers, Teachers, Scientists, Advocates, etc
All persons who have been staying abroad for more than three years (the period of three years could be either in one stretch or broken) and their spouses
Seamen who are in possession of Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC), or Sea Cadets and Deck Cadets
Persons holding Permanent Immigration Visa, such as the visas of UK, USA and Australia.

Note : If the applicant does not have Non-ECR status then All such ECR passport holders need to obtain Emigration Clearance Certificate from the Protector-General of Emigrants, Ministry of Overseas India Affairs.
